• How to use.
The Eraser 2.0.0 is a Drag&Drop utility to erase locked/unlocked files, nested folders, hard disks and diskettes.
In "disk" mode The Eraser 2.0.0 performs a complete deletion of hard/floppy/removable disk catalog. In "file" mode, instead, The Eraser 2.0.0 can perform a simple deletion (to allow the recovery of erased files by appropriate utilities) or a security deletion, by using a sophisticated procedure (to make impossible the recovery of erased files by whatever utilities).
Note: while is working in "disk" mode The Eraser 2.0.0 doesn't initializes or verifies the disk, but erases only the catalog, reducing considerably the waiting time…
While The Eraser 2.0.0 is working, a window notifies a lot of informations:

Be careful: when you drag on one or more files or folders, The Eraser 2.0.0 will not ask you to confirm...when you drag on one or more Hard Disks or diskettes The Eraser 2.0.0 will ask you to confirm!
Drop Keys:
• If The Eraser 2.0.0 finds a locked item, shows an information alert, then quit. Hold down option key, while you drag, to erase locked files...
• Hold down command key to move locked files to trash...
• If The Eraser 2.0.0 finds a duplicate filename, in the trash, shows an information alert, then quit. Hold down shift key to move locked files to trash and to erase immediately duplicate filename...
• Hold down shift and command keys, when you drag, to activate the security deletion...
Security deletion:
In "Security Erasing" mode The Eraser 2.0.0 overwrites the file one or more times, also it can change the file attributes (name, size, creation date, type, creator) before to delete it. You can determine, through the preferences window, what The Eraser 2.0.0 will act in"Security Erasing" mode, specifically: if it should change the file attributes, what is the fork to overwrite (data fork, resource fork, both resource and data forks), how many times The Eraser 2.0.0 will overwrite the file (from 1 to 4).
Note: if you do not set the preferences, The Eraser 2.0.0 by default doesn't change the file attributes and overwrites both fork only one time.
Be careful: in "Security Erasing" mode The Eraser 2.0.0 deletes all, locked files even.
Cursor:
The Eraser 2.0.0 scans folders/disk.
The Eraser 2.0.0 deletes a file.
The Eraser 2.0.0 works fine and fast in background...
Note: while The Eraser 2.0.0 is the foreground application, you can press escape or command-period to exit during its performance. Instead if The Eraser 2.0.0 is the background application you can use only escape key to stop its job.
Be careful: to stop The Eraser 2.0.0 while is working in "Security Erasing" mode you should hold down escape or command-period until it completes the erasing of current file, because it tracks the "exit" keys only at the end of deletion procedure (yes, it's a "Security" procedure!!! ;-) ). If the "Security Erasing" mode appears too slow, you can make it more fast by means of an adequate preferences setting.
When The Eraser 2.0.0 completes its job and if it's in background, then attempts to call back your attention, to show its statistics, by a simple notification procedure. If you do nothing or are working with another application, after a brief waiting time (about 30 seconds), it quits.
The Eraser 2.0.0 requires at least System 7 to run.
